What your day will look like:
Under general supervision, you will operate a school bus or transportation vehicle over designated routes within an established time schedule; transport students to and from school and on special event trips; perform daily inspections of a bus or transportation equipment; and other related work including:
- Assisting in evaluating transportation routes, and reporting unsafe road conditions.
- Loading and unloading students safely at designated stops and on study trips.
- Stopping traffic and escorting children across streets.
- Planning, organizing, and implementing students safety and pupil transportation vehicle evacuation drills.
- Maintaining bus or transportation vehicles in a clean and orderly condition, and inspecting and reporting any mechanical defects or malfunctions.
- Adhering to policies and procedures in maintaining appropriate student behavior.
- Responding to public contacts concerning transportation problems and concerns.
- Completing transportation activity records, including number of students transported, mileage, type of trip, and standby time.
- Sweeping, cleaning and refueling buses.
- May transport children with special learning needs and physical handicaps.
- Administering first aid as required, and contacting appropriate administrators in case of serious injury or illness.

- You have worked hard to earn a H.S. Diploma or equivalency.
- You possess a valid Class B Indiana CDL License with P/S endorsements.
- You possess a School Bus Driver’s Certificate issued by the Indiana Division of School Traffic Safety and Emergency Planning.
- You can lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move 10-20 pounds frequently.
- You can maintain appropriate student behavior and perform appropriately in situations that require tact and diplomacy.
- You can establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
